Our Story
Our story begins with a dream— a dream shared by families who crossed oceans and borders in search of opportunity, safety, and belonging. The Arab Somali community in Canada is a vibrant mosaic of cultures, languages, and traditions, shaped by centuries of connection across the Red Sea between the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. These ties, formed through trade, migration, faith, and family, include Somali communities with historic links to Yemen and Oman, mixed Arab–Somali heritage, and generations of cultural exchange that long predate modern borders. United by a common thread of resilience, we are entrepreneurs, students, parents, and leaders. We are the children of a rich heritage and the architects of a promising future.

The Canadian Arab Somali Association (CASA) was established in 2023 to bring structure, connection, and collective purpose to our community in Canada. We understand the challenges of diaspora life: navigating identity, building careers, and finding a voice in a new land. That’s why CASA exists—to turn those challenges into opportunities.
Our mission is to empower, uplift, and unite Arab Somali Canadians. We create spaces where our community can thrive—through mentorship programs, cultural events, advocacy initiatives, and volunteer opportunities. We believe that when we come together, we are stronger. When we speak together, we are heard.

Stories shaped in stone
Dar al-Hajar is a historic palace located near Sana’a, Yemen. Built in the 18th century atop a natural rock formation, it served as a royal residence and is known for its distinctive architecture, which integrates the structure directly into the surrounding stone landscape. It holds meaning for many Arab Somali families whose histories span both sides of the Red Sea.
Meet Our Team
CASA is guided by a volunteer leadership team rooted in community service and supported by advisors and members who bring diverse experience, insight, and commitment to our shared mission.
